چکیده

The uptake of metals into individual cells is of interest to both environmental1 and human health2,3 studies, whether the metal is dissolved or exists as nanoparticles (NPs). Currently, cellular metal content is studied by removing the cells from their culture media (either by centrifugation or filtration), washing with fresh media solution, and then acid-digesting them for analysis by ICP-MS4. This methodology gives the total metal or particle content in a given number of cells rather than on a per-cell basis. As such, the metal concentration of an individual cell relies on the assumption that all cells accumulate the same amount of ionic or nanoparticulate metal. This assumption is not always true, as demonstrated by techniques such as transmission electron microscope (TEM)5, scanning electron microscope (SEM)6, and fluorescent tracking7. These microscopy techniques allow visualization of NP uptake into cells but are time consuming and prone to artifacts. TEM and SEM are qualitative, and labelling may give false positives where the label-NP complexes are not persistent. Determination of CeO2 Nanoparticle Plant Uptake using Single Particle ICP-MS

Cerium dioxide (CeO2) nanoparticles have found wide use in industrial and commercial products, such as coating materials, fuel additives, and nanomedicine, to name a few. As such, it is expected that CeO2 nanoparticles (NPs) will find their way into the environment and may be transported via aqueous systems where they may end up in drinking water and/or plants, both of which increase the possib...

Evaluation of Hydrodynamic Chromatography Coupled with UV-Visible, Fluorescence and Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry Detectors for Sizing and Quantifying Colloids in Environmental Media

In this study, we evaluated hydrodynamic chromatography (HDC) coupled with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) for the analysis of nanoparticles in environmental samples. Using two commercially available columns (Polymer Labs-PDSA type 1 and 2), a set of well characterised calibrants and a new external time marking method, we showed that flow rate and eluent composition have f...

Monitoring Cerium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles through Drinking Water Treatments using Single Particle ICP-MS

Although a variety of techniques are available to measure nanoparticles, single particle ICP-MS (SP-ICP-MS) has become increasingly important due to its speed and ability to measure environmentally relevant low nanoparticle concentrations, surpassing the limitations of light-based technologies.6-7 Monitoring Cerium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles through Drinking Water Treatments using Sin...

Rapid Delivery of Gold Nanoparticles into Colon Cancer HT-29 Cells by Electroporation: In-vitro Study

Background: Electroporation has become a routine technique for rapid drug delivery for the treatment of cancer. Because of its simplicity and wide range of application, it has been applied for the transfer of gold-nanoparticles and can facilitate entry into target cancer cells. Objective: The aim of this study is finding optimal conditions in order to obtain high GNPs- uptake and cell via...
